Each relationship is about building bridges between two persons, two groups of persons, two institutions or a person and a group of persons. A special bridge is that one that is created between students and teachers. In the next sections of this post, we would like to speak about the ways to create and maintain bridges between teachers and students.
The “bridge” from teachers’ perspectives
If you are a teacher, you have to be ready to be opened to build a strong relationship with your students – a relationship that is based on trust, respect and mutual appreciation. Building a bridge between teacher and students from the teachers’ perspective is a little bit different than on the other side. Being the adult side of this relationship and also the more experienced side, the teacher should assume the first steps in creating this “bridge”. The teacher should have the initiatives and proposals. Usually a teacher is that part of this relationship that has several demands towards students, demands such as discipline, exams, marks and respect. But if you want to be a good teacher, you should be smart enough to listen to your students too, in order to
find which their expectations are.
The “bridge” from students’ perspective
If we take a look at the relationship between students and teachers from students’ perspectives, then we may speak about some different aspects. As a student you may be shy, with some fear and interested more in having fun. Due to this, in most of the situations, students prefer to wait for teachers’ initiatives in building the relationship between teachers and students. Of course, there are different situations in different countries, but some of these aspects may be found in most of the regions of the world. In order to have a great relationship with your teachers, as a student you have to be able to listen to your teacher, but also to have the courage to express your ideas and thoughts, even if you are younger and less experienced.
Why is necessary to create a bridge between students and teachers?
In any kind of cooperation, it is very important to create a good partnership or a “bridge”. A bridge is used always in two directions. Due to this, a bridge may represent a symbol for a good cooperation between two parts. Today students represent the future of our world. Because of this, it is very important to raise responsible citizens, with great knowledge and expertise. But in order to raise this kind of citizens, it is very important to be a good relationship between students and teachers. A “bridge” between students and teachers may represent the best environment for children to gain knowledge, respect and life values.
Usually students’ opinions are distinct than teachers’ beliefs and ideas, but if students are ready to listen to their teachers, they may build together a wonderful “bridge” that may be very useful for both sides that are involved in this collaboration: as a student you gain knowledge, experience, new ideas and new values, while as a teacher you share your beliefs and knowledge, and you are contributing the future of human society.
