As a teacher you have many duties such as sharing your knowledge, ideas, thoughts and beliefs. But there is another duty that you may have as a teacher, speaking here about integrating the students that are part of your class. But which are the best methods that may be used to integrate students? Let’s discover these methods in the following paragraphs.
Create a pleasant atmosphere during your courses
Any person enjoys having a great time at school, work or home. So, if you are a teacher, the first method to integrate students is to create a welcoming atmosphere during your courses, even if you are teaching a subject that may be seen as difficult by your students. A pleasant atmosphere during your courses will convince your students that you are a kind person and you want to help them to understand what you are teaching. This could be the first step in integrating your students during your classes’ hours.
Be yourself while you are teaching
In our opinion, a teacher should be himself even while he is teaching. Being you is very important in every circumstance. And as a teacher it is very important to create a relationship with your students based on trust and respect. Being yourself in front of your students is a proof of trust and respect for them. If you build this relationship with your students from the beginnings, then your students will feel that you are one of their friends, not just a teacher. So, just be yourself and students will be easily integrated in the class during your courses.
Try to support instead of criticize
Nobody likes to be criticized even more when that person is trying to learn something. Due to this, any student should be supported, encouraged to learn and to gain self-respect, instead of
being criticized if the student doesn’t achieve all the goals of your courses. In any situation, support is more valuable than critics, but for a student this attitude is decisive. If you will support your students even in those situations when you are not satisfied with their results, you will be able to see an improvement in their scholarly situations. And the final result will be a more integrated student during your teaching hours.
Listen to your students
The relationship between students and teachers is based on dialog, meaning somebody that is listening and somebody that is speaking. If you have expectations to be listened, then you should listen first. So, listen to your students’ needs, opinions, ideas and fears. In this case, you will be able to have the chance to answer to their expectations. A positive answer to your students’ needs and opinions will convince them that you are their teacher and friend. This attitude will help students to integrate easier into the class.
We hope that the methods that we have mentioned above will help you to integrate easier your students during your courses. Try these methods and if they work, just let us know to share our methods with other teachers.
