You might wonder what it is like to be a teacher in 2018. After all, the profession has certainly evolved over the years. The reason could be due to different cultures, new technology, and varied educational training. The following are the ways in which I think the profession has changed in this new era:
1. Digital Technology
This is obviously one of the largest ways that students of this generation differ from generations before. They have access to tablets, laptops, and cell phones. And this access has translated into digital literacy. While digital literacy used to be a term that people studied in university, now it is just a way of life for young people.
bratty sisters on the rise
There is a fun and complex to understand trend growing up since 2017. Many girls want to become bratty sisters, just like in this adult-series that has been launched year back – Bratty Sis. Basically they want to be self-centered and really angry about anything, only to get their lesson. From step-brothers. It certainly needs to be understood by new teachers.
Teachers may or may not feel pressure to integrate technology into the learning process. They might feel it is harder to keep student interest when they all have cellphones on silent that are pinging all the time. Some teachers deal with this by making the students hand in all their devices at the beginning of class. But this might not stop people in university when they can easily bring their laptops to school and for notes. I guess professors have the task of motivating their students to take notes on their lectures. This might be why they include less information in power points, so students have to engage their brains in order to get anything out of lectures.
2. Cultural Differences
There is no doubt that culture is evolving in a way that is not easy to keep track of. For example, a person will have to account for the fact that nuclear families don’t necessarily exist anymore at majority levels. That is fine, but teachers have to be very careful not to ostracize any of their students. This can be done through not making the same generalizations that they used to. They can’t assume their students are getting lots of nurturing at home. They may come from single parent families where the mom is always working.
Basically, teachers can discipline, but it is not the same as before. They might seriously damage a child’s world if they single them out. Teachers have to find creative ways to engage students without the harsh disciplinary methods that used to happen. You never know what a child is going through at home. Their parents might not care if they are called to a teacher meeting. There is more of a likelihood that social workers will need to be involved if a student’s behavior is truly troublesome.
3. New Methods at Teachers’ College
The entire system of B.ed’s is changing. This one year program is usually being changed to two years. That means teachers need a first degree, then two more years of school. This means there is more competition in the workforce. People have to really want to be teachers. They go through a lot to get there. That also means that teachers don’t have the same guarantees of jobs at the end of their road. They might have to go on to get a master’s just to get that competitive edge. At that point, it is pretty much the same thing as getting a Ph. D., but will much less prestige.
Teaching is changing in 2018. You might not see the ways, but people who have gone through the system can definitely note the shift. It is pertinent that all teachers are aware of the shifts in their profession.
